Question 1

How small will the OGG file be?

Accepted Answer

At 128 kbps a minute of audio takes about 0.96 MB, compared with about 10.6 MB for a CD-quality WAV. At 96 kbps it's about 0.72 MB per minute.

Question 2

Can I use the OGG on my website?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Use it in an audio element or with the Web Audio API. Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Android play Ogg Opus. Older Safari versions don't, so add an MP3 or M4A as a second source for them.

Question 3

Is OGG lossless?

Accepted Answer

No. Opus is lossy, like MP3. If you need a smaller file that keeps every sample, convert the WAV to FLAC instead. It saves less space but loses nothing.

Question 4

Why is the OGG at 48 kHz when my WAV was 44.1 kHz?

Accepted Answer

Opus always works at 48 kHz, so every file it writes uses that rate. The resampling is clean, and players handle it automatically.

Question 5

What's the difference between the OGG and Opus outputs?

Accepted Answer

Only the file extension. Both contain Opus audio in an Ogg file. Some apps look for .ogg and others for .opus, so pick whichever your software expects.

Question 6

Does the WAV get uploaded?

Accepted Answer

No. The WAV is encoded to Opus in your browser and never leaves your device.
