FLAC vs MP3
FLAC is lossless. It compresses audio the way a ZIP file compresses a document, so decoding gives back the exact original. MP3 is lossy: it drops sounds the ear is unlikely to notice, which makes files about three times smaller than FLAC at 320 kbps and about five times smaller at 192 kbps.
Always convert from the FLAC. Turning an MP3 back into FLAC won't restore what was removed, so keep your originals.
