Online Voice Recorder

Record your voice from any microphone, pause when you need to, listen back, and save the take as an MP3, WAV or M4A file. It runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.

  3. 3Play it back, pick a format and download the file.

A voice recorder without an app

This online voice recorder is for quick jobs: a voice memo, a message for a colleague, a podcast intro, a practice take for an audition, or narration for a slide deck. There is no account and no install. The timer and level meter show that recording is running, and the waveform lets you see at a glance whether your voice is coming through.

Saving your recording

Browsers record in their own compressed format, usually WebM on Chrome and Firefox and MP4 on Safari. You can download that original file as it is, or convert it on your device to a more common format. MP3 is the safe choice for sending to anyone. WAV keeps every detail for editing in Audacity, GarageBand or a video editor. M4A is compact and plays natively on Apple devices.

Tips for better voice recordings

Pick the right input first: if you have a headset or USB microphone, select it in the device list rather than the laptop's built-in mic. Speak at a steady distance, and do a ten second test before the real take. Small rooms with bare walls add echo, so a bedroom or a car often sounds better than a kitchen.

If the recording sounds too quiet afterwards, you can raise it with our volume booster or normalizer, and trim the silence at the start and end with the audio trimmer.
