How much bass boost should I use?

Start with the default of 8 dB. Around 4 to 6 dB adds warmth that most people notice, and above 12 dB the bass starts to boom on small speakers and earbuds.

What does the Up to setting change?

It sets how high the boost reaches. At 60 to 80 Hz only the deep sub-bass and kick drum get louder. At 150 to 250 Hz the bass guitar and the lower part of voices get louder too, which sounds fuller but can get muddy.

Why is the rest of the song a little quieter?

To make room for the extra bass without clipping, the whole file is turned down by half the boost, for example 4 dB for an 8 dB boost. Use the Volume Booster afterwards if you want it louder.

Will it add bass my speakers can't play?

Accepted Answer

Phone speakers and small laptop speakers can't reproduce the deepest bass, so a 40 to 60 Hz boost may not be audible on them. Set Up to around 100 to 150 Hz for bass you can hear on small speakers.

Can I adjust the treble too?

Not here. The Audio Equalizer has five bands, including a 12 kHz treble band, and a Bass preset to start from.
